I am always just beyond impressed by my Riley. Whether it be her - TopicsExpress

I am always just beyond impressed by my Riley. Whether it be her wit, her vocabulary, her ability to love, the level of her compassion, her intelligence, her desire to please others, or playing the role of big sister (her personal favorite) She is just extraordinary! Not many know this but at 4 Riley was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. As I heard the doctor say this to me about my first born, my first love. My heart just crumbled. But then I realized I had a choice. To let that define her..and me.. or to move on. As all of you see now Riley plays basketball, does cheerleading, can bat from both sides of the plate, and is a top scholar at her college prep school. Riley will never even know that some Doctor diagnosed her with that. Why? Because honestly it is irrelevant to her and her life. She will never know that everyone elses fingers and hands dont cramp when they hold a pencil or scissors. That is normal to her. And shes happy with her normal. Im only sharing this now because she has taught me a great deal. So many thousands of people let some diagnoses define who they are and the quality of life they will have because of it.. and that makes me very sad for those. My family have all been attacked by the enemy with some pretty serious medical conditions. My husband broke his back in 3 places a couple years ago, I have a kidney disease and some pretty terrible arthritis, Riley as you read hers above, and Emery was put through some horrific things during gestation, and was born with a tumor in her tummy. We could let all of those bad things define us but we dont. We are THE POWELLS. and we are survivors. And I would imagine that Satan really really hates it every single time we triumph over our tribulations. I would imagine he is terrified for the day that my girls become woman and The Truth is on their lips, I imagine, he will shake with fear when they open their mouth to speak the Word Of God to all who will listen, I imagine he trembles now when their tiny precious feet touch the ground in the mornings because he knows the greatness that is in them. And I imagine he is pretty scared of me to because he knows that I am the one that was chosen to raise these two little soldiers up! The joy of The Lord is our strength!
