I am an Orthodox Christian interested in Islam NOT from a Christian perspective, but from an authentic Islamic perspective. Are there any good books on this subject or any good teachers on this subject in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area? For many years, I was Christian before I embraced Islam about six years ago. That Christian past is very much a part of me, and I hold in reverence all those people I lived and worked with for many years and I respect what Christians believe. I cannot fail to mention that my own book, Gardens of Delight: A Simple Introduction to Islam, does precisely what you are asking for. It talks about what Muslims believe in a very gentle way, allowing Muslims to speak for themselves and asking the reader to wait and make no judgments until they have been given an explanation of Muslim belief. However, rather than discuss this or that book, I will address your question by talking about Islam. Muslims believe that Islam has existed since the beginning of time. Muhammad (peace be upon him), according to this belief, is not the founder of Islam but the final prophet in a long line of prophets, which begins with Adam and which includes Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus (peace be upon them all).
