I am an atheist living in Colombia, a country where religión is part of society in itself. I am also a medical doctor and consider myself a scientist. I agree with the atheist point of view in almost everything except for FAITH. Faith is part of the human being, in fact, faith has been studied extensively in science and is a pivotal part of many, if not most, scientific papers only in science its called PLACEBO EFFECT. Placebo is the subjetive and sometimes measurable and objetive perception of a better outcome from an intervention that didnt took place. For an intervention to be considered effective it has to be better than placebo (i.e. better than faith) if not it is considered not effective and as useless as religion.
