I am apalled by some of the reasoned and balanced commentary regarding the Paris massacre. As if some silly cartoons justified slaughter by the self-appointed emissaires of a fictious god. People offend my beliefs every day on FB, and I have yet to murder even one of them. It is not a matter of whether one liked Charlie Hebdo - (personally I never did...so I refrained from buying it) That they had the right to engage in their particular form of street-theatre was never open to question. I equally do not wish to sound like the Americans who would ban any mention of 9/11 being a blowback for the sins of their leaders. The successive governments of France are equally culpable - for their passivity, their cowadice, their refusal to look some very unpleasent realities in the face. Hollande whoring for the Americans in Syria, now bleeting piteously about France being the Country of Freedom - did he borrow a speechwriter from Obama? Disgusting... In France, we have a long tradition of freedom of expression and although hate speech of various types has been banned - given the insidious spread of the politically-correct (enforcement is infrequent and trivial) -there remains an old tradition of satire and provocation. It is a civiilised, Western country - and there is a tradition of answering words with words - sometimes with curses - never with murder. The insane thing is that refugees from a world far les pluralistic have been accepted in their millions, and are now turning upon the host organism - which is too politically correct, too stuck in the liberal 19th Century discourse, and too enervated to defend itself. Denying the obvious will simply allow the enemy to take more territory before the fight begins, The stupidity of our government defies description - from subverting Assad to attacking Putin - it is time to kick them out and begin the resistance. Let their deaths not be in vain.
