I am asking for your opinions: One-state, or two-state…. We were on a ridge; across and on the next hill was the bleak grey wall, the separation barrier, the unilateral concrete monstrosity that cuts Palestinians off and apart, that is the reality of everyday life for millions here. Behind it, the Palestinians of what Israelis and the rest of the world consider the West Bank. In the far distance, the mountains of Jordan; at night, we were told, from that point in East Jerusalem, we could see Ammans lights. So much conflict over such a small space. To our right was another hill, and on that a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem--part of Palestine by international law, but annexed to Jerusalem in Israel. If there was to be a separation of peoples here, the emergence of a Palestinian state, it would involve a boundary of almost absurdly serpentine geography across a minuscule terrain. Is it feasible? Is it possible? The reason I write this is instead to poll you. Informally. Unscientifically. Do you believe that the best solution is the so-called one state model, along South Africa, or a two-state partition of Mandatory Palestine? (The particulars of how arent what Im asking.)
