I am astonished by how many people are not CPAs, not EAs, not attorney and still are giving tax advice. Or maybe Im more astonished by the people who are having people with no qualifications or credentials prepare tax returns, with absolutely no recourse against the preparer. In the past week, Ive seen a person who has no credentials whatsoever and who usually sets up business structures starting to prepare tax returns and then signing the clients name to the forms! Without a Power of Attorney, without any written notice to the IRS. In another case, the taxpayer had his bookkeeper fill in numbers on his tax return with absolutely no back up. I think in the first case, there are some innocent victims and in the second case, the taxpayer is trying to cheat and he cant get any experienced person to sign off on it.
