I am back from Ferguson and in NYC again. I am trying to - TopicsExpress

I am back from Ferguson and in NYC again. I am trying to unpack everything I experienced, participated in, and witnessed over the last 48-72 hours. This is a peaceful protest with solid and clear demands. My friends and I have been tear gassed, shoved, arrested, threatened in many different ways by the police there, and at some points, facing a loaded gun to our faces. This is a peaceful protest. We are using our right to assemble peacefully. The militarized police are the outside agitators. It shouldnt be a surprise that things escalated at midnight which was the suspended curfew. This is a peaceful protest. I am a target. Multiple times the police asked the media, predominately white, to separate themselves. Theyre separating themselves from a predominately Black group of people who are protesting or providing support and risking their lives to tell this story and to protect the protestors from harm, tear gas, mace, and police dogs. I am a target- I am a target because I am Black. I understand and get their pain. I understand what it feels like to have all mechanisms of survival being torn a part from you by state sanctioned violence. I feared for my life last night. This is a peaceful, strategic protest. We have so much more work to do not only in Ferguson but also in New York, LA, Ohio, Florida and the many places our bodies are physically at risk. This was an experience I will remember forever. I am still trying to understand it. We must not let up. Stay safe to all my friends and movement brothers and sisters who are heading into the trenches right now in Ferguson. Love you family. HANDS UP, #DONTSHOOT
