I am back home, safe and sound although I nearly had a head-on - TopicsExpress

I am back home, safe and sound although I nearly had a head-on crash on the way down, just south of Pimba. Some idiot driving a 4WD tray top overtaking a road train on a blind crest with me only between 60 and 80 metres away coming up the other side. Thats when I decided to go bush (off the left hand side of the road). He pulled in front of the heavy under brakes road train just as he got level with me. I can still see his face so clearly. I cant understand why anyone would overtake just before a crest. Well, that was my excitement for the drive to Adelaide. Otherwise a very enjoyable but busy trip. On the way home I rescued a couple of humans from the side of the road. A lovely young Polish couple hitch hiking to Alice Springs so I loaded them on board and they stayed with us last night before heading back out to the highway to continue their journey. When I rang Terry earlier in the morning he told me about the little joey that had just been brought in. His words were We have got a new little joey in. Shes a beautiful little girl, just starting to velvet (just starting to get fur) but very, very cold, very dehydrated and malnourished. She is so cold and I am having trouble getting her temperature up, she cant even hold her head up and I dont think she will make it. Naturally we discussed his treatment for her and there was nothing more I could suggest. When I spoke to Terry next the news was promising. She was warming up and he had sub-cut her (injection fluid under the skin) and she was perking up. The next phone call we shared was about an hour later and by then he had sub-cut again, she was lovely and warm so he had offered her some formula - which she drank well. Not much, but better than none. By the time I arrived home just before sunset this precious little girl had improved so much and with continued special treatment continued to improve overnight. This morning she was poking her head out of her pouch and giving some little barks to say it was feed time. Needless to say we are quite optimistic that she will be okay, thanks to Terry and his wonderful care of her. So, we would like to introduce to you our very special little girl, Sarah. Isnt she just beautiful!
