I am beginning to feel like the mark of the beast in Revelation is metaphorical language for operating an active Facebook profile! Im sorry to be so hard on Facebook this week--it really is a lovely tool in many ways--but the more time I spend away from Facebook during the day engaging with reality, the more horrified I am when I return. I usually give very little credence to those who constantly soapbox the moral decay of the nation (i.e., the large-scale rise in support for ideas with which they are personally uncomfortable)--but in all honesty, I see very little love for truth or justice among Facebook users. Instead, Facebook is largely employed as a tool to enhance polarization, group-think, and the social legitimacy of things like logical fallacies, confirmation bias, and an extremely strange sense of boldness and insistence when people discuss matters that they are GROSSLY unqualified to discuss. On the other hand, Facebook is my only means of communication with quite a number of people. I also operate several groups and pages as a means for disseminating necessary, work-oriented information. And these few pros seem to outweigh the innumerable cons. Therefore, all I can do is lament my slavery to social media in a status update. ;) #FacebookFTW
