I am bitterly disappointed that I have to resort to posting a face book status, putting my personal life out there for everyone to know, as it appears that this is what it takes to put an end to the gossip and nastiness that some in the dog show world seem to take such pleasure in spreading. For those of you who had concerns that I left early yesterday and today and decided that it was because I was upset that Eddie didn’t get put up, I’d like to remind you that life goes on outside the dog ring. I left early to go to the hospital to be with my father who has had an unexpected event relating to his heart. If you really had concerns, how about contacting me and asking if all was well rather than making up stories – enough of you have my number. Whilst I would love Eddie to do well and come home draped in fringies, I am honestly happy with him each and every time we have exited the ring. I am always sincere in thanking the judge, and the handlers of the other dogs. If I say thank you, or well done, or oh my gosh you have a gorgeous dog I just love it, I mean it from the bottom of my heart. I made the decision to get involved with showing because I love dogs and I think they are all beautiful. Perhaps some of the long-termers have forgotten that. When I first started I received a ton of advice, (along with a lot of offers for ‘pet’ whippets, and only one offer for a ‘show’ whippet, but that’s Eddie’s story for another day) the most often said advice was that you need a thick skin. I honestly thought that this was in regards to being able to accept defeat, as showing whippets was tough, not that you’d need it because of other people’s bitterness. I find it truly heartbreaking that instead of welcoming people into the sport, there is that minority that seem to get pleasure out of making the experience as hellish as possible. It is no wonder people come to one or two shows then are never seen again.
