I am calling on the Minister for Health to make clear his future plans for services at Altnagelvin hospital following recent speculation that the current funding crisis may have a detrimental impact on local services. Recent speculation that the new radiotheraphy unit and a new 24-hour laboratory to treat patients with serious heart conditions could be delayed, is very unhelpful and deeply concerning to people in the North West region. It is imperative that the Minister prioritises reviewing his budget and prioritising these much needed services at Altnagelvin.The people of the North West have campaigned tirelessly for a radiotheraphy unit at Altnagelvin and every effort must be made to ensure the department delivers on its promise to deliver this essential service. This ongoing speculation is unhelpful and the Minister needs to urgently review his budgets to ensure the North West region does not, once again, bear the blunt of these budget cuts.
