I am concerned about our capacity as young Nigerians to respond to critical issues that threaten our corporate existence as a country. No doubt 2015 will be very definitive for us as a people. The political context and landscape in 2011 is totally different from what we are experiencing now. The issue of accepting electoral outcome was never an issue in 2011 as candidates who were not satisfied with outcome of elections sought redress in the election petition tribunal and our law courts. The narrative has obviously changed. We are all witnesses to the open declaration of non acceptance of election results should elections be rigged or likelihood of the institution of a parallel government. Remember the scenario that played out in 2009 during the rerun election in Ekiti when Mrs Ayoka Adebayo, the then Resident Electoral Commissioner refused to succumb to all entreaties and pressure to declare the candidate of the PDP winner of the election. The woman tendered her resignation letter but was forced and threatened to declare Segun Oni winner of the election in Idi-osi LGA. Assuming Professor Jega led INEC conducts the elections in all fairness and the outcome is not in favor of PDP or APC and he is pressured, intimidated and forced to alter the election results, how will young Nigerians respond?
