"I am currently studying education in college and I quickly learned how hard it is to give teaching your all, all the time. This wasn’t hard for Mr. Horyn, or at least he didn’t let it show. Mr. Horyn was often bouncing up and down or running around the room while trying to make a point. I remember him hiding under his desk a few times over the course of the year in excitement when a student would share something brilliant. Earning Mr. Horyn’s smile after you made a comment felt like an incredible achievement. Mr. Horyn always had words of encouragement and advice. One of my favorite stories that he shared with the class was that, during college, he made a hat out of aluminum foil that he would wear while writing essay conclusions. Although we never saw the hat, whenever I write a conclusion to an essay, I still imagine Mr. Horyn wearing an aluminum foil hat and cheering me on. I feel really lucky to have had Mr. Horyn as a teacher. He truly cared about each one of his students. I am in shock that Mr. Horyn has passed away and I am very sad that future students will not get to experience the great, inspiring, thoughtful teacher that Mr. Horyn was and always will be for me. I will remember him always. Especially when writing conclusions."
