I am deeply disturbed, actually horrified, by the loss of life in this Israel/Gaza conflict. I have listened to every type of news station, from Al Jazeera to local news, trying to figure out what is spin from fact. I have done an equal amount of reading, spoken with a Palestinian illegal refuge, as well as heard many varied opinions from Israelis. I am at an overload of separist propaganda and regurgitation of such propaganda, please save it for another time. Trying to not fall into unrealistic activism, I have tried to think outside of the box as to possible solutions that would be agreeable to Hamas and/or Palestinans, as well as Israel. I do believe that this carnage must end and a long term solution must be reached. I also believe that it is unethical to imprison a nation of Palestinians based on the belief that a relatively few terrorists (there are millions of ordinary people who just want to live and raise their families) pose a real threat to Israel. And, I can attest firsthand, the threat is real. But, how can a nation of people be falsely imprisoned on a tiny strip of land, now obliterated, based on fear of strife? If anything, worse scenario, Hamas would access international seaports and airports to further their cause, which is reported to be to kill all Jews and retake Israel. Im talking about extremists. There are fanatical Jews here who also wish death to all Gaza, however, it seems unlikely that Joe-citizen is ready to strap on bombs and get on a bus. Its just a different modus operendi. I am not talking about Israeli Defense Force, I cannot access their intelligence to make an educated guess whether or not their leaders goal is death to all Palestinians, but my gut tells me that many of the child-soldiers just believe that they are doing their duties, taking orders, based on patriotic protection of Israel. I dont want to hear any more rabid spin. I dont have that much faith in the true humanity behind the rhetoric of radical activists. What I want to hear is this: given it is immoral to keep a million people imprisoned in a veritable prison of land, people who the majority have committed no crimes, children, babies, even in light of the present terrorist threat. But, how, if borders were swung wide open, would this integration be conducted for the highest good of all concerned, especially with the reciprocal hatred of some on both sides? Im not talking about an unrealistic statement of just Stop the Occupation, I am talking about the actual nuts and bolts activities that would have to be implemented to open the borders, recognize Palestine, and integrate freely without violence on either side? Dont shell me with propaganda from either side, Ive probably already seen it. I dont take propaganda but with a grain of salt and I am longing for truth. Real truth. So, id like to open a converstion as to anyones ideas as to how this fantasy-integration could be implemented? Your opinion, not rabid, political, myopic spin. Again, I do believe that the Palestinians can not be kept prisoners of a small stretch of land for crimes most did not commit. I do believe Hamas uses terrorist tactics, and I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu is a war zealot. Any real thought on the costruction of such an integration, how YOU would accomplish this, are what Im hoping to hear. I have done my own thinking outside the box to try to envision a real, working solution, which I will share later after I give it more thought. I am nobody whose ideas are going to shake the world anyway, but we are allowed to think, imagine, dream. Somehow the madness must end. And it must have a real, working, long term plan in order to achieve ethical ends. And hopefully, one day, rights for all, and just maybe, peace. I sincerely hope for some reasonable responses.
