I am deeply saddened and ashamed for having to bring this to your attention. The attached photos depict the defacement of the Muslim Prayer Room sign on two separate occasions at Guys Campus Hodgkin Building. This is clearly an act calculated to provoke and trigger emotions, most probably in light of the recent passing of the BDS motion over at KCLSU. For those who are unaware, Kings College London Students Union (KCLSU) recently endorsed the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) campaign at its Student General Meeting on Wednesday night, the motion passing 348 to 252 votes. Sebastiaan Debrouwere, the KCLSU President comments, “ensuring student welfare is absolutely key to KCLSU’s work in the King’s Community. This defacement is awful and disgraceful, and in no way furthers the healthy climate of interfaith dialogue we strive for on campus. We will be raising this issue with College and asking the university to follow up on it with the greatest expediency.” Bilal Aykac, President of the KCL Islamic Society notes, “onething I greatly value here at King’s is the good relations we maintain with other Societies, KCLSU Sabbs and faculty. I find it deeply concerning that the backlash following the BDS motion has resulted in this, and sincerely hope that it is resolved very soon”. I have personally informed the Dean’s team & the Estates Department to look into this as a matter of urgency. We strictly do not tolerate any forms of anti-semitism or religious discrimination, and completely deplore the juvenile attempt to polarise the rich and incredibly diverse community we boast here at Kings. We also hold the KCL & KCLSU Safe Space Policies with the utmost respect across all campuses. We remind people to keep calm and not become victim to any of the provocateurs. Should you wish to report any issues, please contact myself/any of the Isoc committee or any of the elected Sabbatical officers. Wa alaykum Salaam wa rahmatullah, keep us in your Duas Faisel Alam KCL ISOC - Head of Student Affairs
