I am delighted that Brighton and Hove City Council have been awarded £183,000 from the Department for Communities and Local Government to help tackle blue badge fraud. I am a firm believer that disabled parking spaces should only be for people who are genuinely disabled, and have a real need for the parking space. Back in 2012 I introduced my own Private Members Bill on this particular matter, which became law in late 2013 as the Disabled Persons’ Parking Badges Act. The law gives Local Authorities more power to combat blue badge fraud, and I am so very proud to have been directly involved in this.
