I am disappointed that Phoenix network, a usually reputed media organisation, has published this article which is extremely irrational and unfair towards the Malaysian government. Heres some rebuttal. 1. No, Najib did not announce the news like a child who had just lost a toy. He was timely and sombre in his delivery. 2. They called it missing for a long time. Even though I personally did not agree with this terminology initially, it is understandable that technically it has to be called missing until a more concrete evidence of a crash is found, like what we have now started doing after this latest concrete satellite evidence. 3. Its arguable that at the earlier stages certain information were not revealed at the first opportunity. This is indeed deplorable and should be criticised. Whether or not this has affected the search and recovery of potential survivors is debatable. 4. When everyone thought theres no survivor on board, you said some people are alive - this is just utterly untrue. No one actually promised any survivor. All that was said was we wont give up on search and recovery as long as theres still hope. 5. Yes China used its satellite to provide more imagery; Malaysia, along with 25 other countries also sent ships and aircrafts to assist in the SAR. 6. No, Malaysian government was not maliciously or nonchalantly trying to misdirect SAR from one sea to another. Its simply the consequence of the sparsity of information. 7. Najib said we have to inform you today not because the Malaysian government disparaged the valuable lives; its because they promised to release information transparently and timely - didnt the author just argue for transparent information in the previous paragraphs? And now hes angry that Najib appeared late at night to break the bad news once concrete satellite evidence is known? Damned if you do, damned if you dont? 8. To suggest that Malaysian government is still covering up some truths today as if they actually know where it is, is just dumb speculation. With international data sharing and recovery operation, theres no way they could hide even if they wanted to. In conclusion, yes there have been some cover-ups and sheer incompetence in certain aspects of the investigation. Some of the people involved, such as the radar watchers who missed the plane flying across the entire country should be held responsible. However, to suggest malignant intention by Malaysia is just irrational and unwise. This author, along with many Chinese, is making the utter mistake of ascribing malice to that which could be adequately explained by incompetence. This is maladaptive, and will not be helpful in finding out the truth and achieving closure, the very thing they are after. NOTE: Thanks to those who shared my little rant. Please note that if you only click share, only the link to the article will appear on your wall. You will have to copy and paste my writing manually if thats your intention. Thanks.
