I am doing a few pieces on Truth. My first piece focuses on the mystical definition of Truth. Here is a preliminary sketch I did in Sketchbook Pro. This piece is related to the etymology of the word truth, which comes from Old English triewð (West Saxon), treowð (Mercian) faith, faithfulness, fidelity, loyalty; veracity, quality of being true; pledge, covenant, from triewe, treowe faithful. The latter word and this adjective true share the same roots as the word tree, in that both derive from an older word for solid. The word very as in ASL very true itself comes from Latin verus true, from which we also get words verity and verify. The word mystery also share the roots with the word mute (Greek myein to be shut. Incorporated in the center is Maat, Egyptian goddess, literally (in Egyptian) truth, with hand wings. What I am attempting here is an abstract, esoteric interpretation in ASL blended with dream imagery.
