I am doing the most enjoyable research for an article I have ever done. Sifting through links sent to me by music & film producer Regis Laugier I came upon this. His band Hiflklub produced the film Plans Make God Laugh - A Drift About Alain Johannes. Hifiklub lives in the South of France and this is live footage of them performing with with Alain Johannes at Villa Tamaris. Alain has found his voice as an artist creating music with the Cigar-Box guitar. His dark sense of melody draws me in to every piece I hear. He is one of the most deeply touching performers I have ever experienced. Alain has recorded and played with his own LA based projects (ELEVEN) and with QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, Masters of Reality, and more. He makes the desert connection cross-pollinating with Dave Catching and Mario Lalli who added layers in the studio to the recently released film soundtrack (Cobraside Distribution Inc). I am practicing my approach for an upcoming film review, while I dive deep into this live set by these. These musicians are clearly embarking upon a musical journey as they explore textures and allow cultures to collide.
