I am excited about the upcoming Community Block Party!! As you all know its a labor of love for me. This event has been my dream child since its inception. My idea to bring together the people of Sunnyside/South Park to have a good time and enjoy live music of every genre. Many of the people of Sunnyside do not have the money or the transportation to get them to events downtown like the recent Childrens Festival or the many music festivals that go on downtown. Many of the parents and kids are not able to leave from the confines of the hood and ever since the City of Houston stopped having its party in the park, (Sunnyside Park), theres been a void in the neighborhood. I put this event on as an alternative to the many negative things that go on in minority neighborhoods across the country. There is really not enough positive things going on in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods. A lot of minorities cannot afford to have fun because it cost too much.. The past 5 years Ive put this block party on, Ive spent my own money to make it happen for the kids, for the families, for the community. The kids deserve this event and Im happy to make it happen!!! My ultimate dream is to take this event and have big time sponsors and turn the block party into a yearly Music Festival for everybody!! Ill take it back to Sunnyside Park and well make it the thing the kids look forward to every year...I want to hire these same bands that are performing this year for free and in the near future and pay them. I explained to all the acts that I could not afford to pay them and they still said yes!! That moves me. Every year I manage to get some of the best, most talented artist in Houston to take part in this event. It humbles me beyond words. I am so grateful to them.. With that being said Id like to give a shout out to Tiffany Rachann, who jumped head on into this project and has helped me put it together to be better than the previous years..Id like to thank Ali Abdullah who made that awesome flyer in less than 24 hours and had it up and going.. Id like to thank Reginald Wheatley of Leveloneband Kingwood for running sound again!! Believe me when we get the major finances you will be the first person I call and contract to do the festival every year!!!! To the many artist who have graciously donated their time and talent to this years block party I am humbled by your kindness. I love you all so much... To the people out there who have been behind the scenes promoting the party and sharing the information with people out there I am so crazy grateful to you!!! To everyone who has intentions of coming out and supporting but just cant, I still love you.. To my girl Sharon Cheatham, your always encouraging words always inspire me. Thank you for having my back hon.. I love you so much!! Now, yall get ready for April 12th!!!!!!
