I am excited to announce that I have been placed with the Young Mothers Empowerment Program for my two month term in Ghana. I am one of the first volunteers to take on this program so it is going to take a lot of organization, creativity, and flexibility as I will be helping to lay out the ground work. I will be working for the Department of Social Welfare in Ghana, while reaching out to the local communities and teenage mothers. It will be my job to collect data, analyze it, locate target respondents, design, develop, and administer questionnaires, and report my findings. This will involve me going out into the community and corresponding with the locals. Once the foundation is laid out the program will provide education, skill teaching, and empowerment for the young mothers. It will include hairdressing, dressmaking, bead making, and reproductive health education to name a few! What a wonderful way to kick off my BSW career! Talk about community practice! I cant wait to start!
