I am far more concerned with the suspension of the WIC program (Women Infants and Children) and Headstart than I am with the closure of monuments and memorials in Washington along with National Parks. And, while this may be construed by some as heresy, those Federal employees who are currently "furloughed" should be asking themselves just how necessary their jobs are and whether or not they are truly "public servants". Leave the damn government shut down until Congress does its job. Is it possible to turn off the electricity, water and sewer in the Capital Building? I guess that means that I agree with Pres. Obama that the job of the Congress is to pass a budget with funds appropriated rather than trying to attach any such action to a different policy matter such as the Affordable Care Act. That becomes extortion. It is time for these erstwhile public servants to think of something other than the power they yield and the power they wish to yield and to be a servant for a change--not of the President but of those 3 prepositions that Abraham Lincoln invoked--of the people, by the people, for the people.
