I am forced write this status in English because I am connected to many friends in Karnataka who have come to this state seeking their life and settlement. As such, the Supreme Court judgement rejecting Karnataka’s plea to make Kannada medium of instruction till Standard 4 is an insensitive shocker. Kids at the age have tremendous capability to absorb language. More, their social connectivity and sensitisation during that period is most crucial. Unless they interact in the language, they do not feel part of the society around. It also helps the attending parent to pick up the language while being part of the child’s studies. It is unfortunate that we focus on creating children to get employment, rank, social status while totally ignore their overall personality and paying back to society. It is time that we treat every part of the nation with respect; more so, develop regard to place and language of our habitat. Expecting my non-Kannada Parent friends to raise their voice against SC judgement and show their allegiance, affection and connect to the land they live in.
