I am genuinely curious and I freely admit it may well be white male privilege, but when the topic of Uber and Lyft come up, all I hear are stories about being attacked by taxi drivers, being followed in to apartments and nearly raped by taxi drivers, being stranded by taxi drivers who force fares out halfway through a trip. In short, many many tales of outrageous and egregious behavior that I never heard of or encountered before Uber and Lyft came on scene. I am having a hard time reconciling this sudden surge in horror stories that I never heard before. And when questioned why if one was scared of a regulated industry with readily identifiable drivers, why an unregulated driver with non accountability is preferable, I get the answer of its cheaper and faster What am I missing?
