I am glad to see that there have been few Islam bashing over the Sydney hostage crisis. Most, if not all, understood that the action of 1 man did not represent the entirety of a religion, regardless of his claims. The people of Sydney and Australia have shown us how to handle, cope and support the people affected by this. They have not devolved into a lynch mob looking for the nearest Frankenstein. Ironically, the ones I have seen jumping onto the islamphobic bandwagon are those in our country, demanding for stronger laws and actions to prevent such things from recurring. It is strange because they are the same ones clamouring for more freedom and looser laws in Malaysia. And yes, these are non Muslims shouting the loudest. I guess people do have different perspectives when it suits their needs. Maybe we need to take the opportunity to learn some lessons here. If we are honest about it, I do see why some Muslims in our country have the perception that Islam is under attack in Malaysia. How not to when the double standards are so obvious? Maybe we need to reevaluate our approach. Maybe we need to do some honest soul searching. And maybe we need to ask ourselves what is it we really want. To live in harmony with our diversity or in conflict upholding our differences? I know my choice. What is yours?
