I am going to do a 3-mile Walk for Bakersfields AIDS Project, Rickys Retreat. I am walking in honor of my brother Ricky R. Montoya. The AIDS Walk is on Saturday, Oct. 4th at 9 AM. Ricky was diagnosed with AIDS in 1990. He passed away from AIDS Dec. 7, 1992. There has not been one day since his passing that I have forgotten Ricky. Not one... In 1993, our families, The Montoya and Perez Families, established Bakersfields AIDS Project. Since then, we have worked hard to promote awareness about AIDS and its affect upon American families and families worldwide. AIDS affects not only the person living with AIDS, but also their family, friends, co-workers and community. Losing a LOVEd one is the hardest way to learn about AIDS and the humanity behind the statistics. Im asking our Perez and Montoya Families to come together again and to donate and walk in honor of Ricky. He was a former board member of BAP, was part of our Positively Speaking Speakers Bureau, helped with Camp Jessie Lee, and volunteered at Rickys Retreat. We will miss Michael dearly. AIDS is not over... it continues to take our LOVEd ones and there are many we miss. We hope to see Families and Friends of those we want to have remembeRED...
