I am going to make a point of working with more models locally for photo reference. Its become increasingly important to me to have just the right lighting, pose and model aesthetic for what I am trying to convey. Im very sensitive to non verbal communication, as I believe most people are. Facial expression and hand placement go a long way in non verbal communication and lighting serves to convey mood. I appreciate so many of the beautiful models on Deviant Art, and do my best to support them by actually purchasing stock sets from my favorite models even if I do not intend to use reference from the set I am buying. However, I find more and more that I can not find exactly the light and the pose that I see in my mind. More often than not nowadays, I cant even find anything in the same ballpark. For a while, I have just dealt with this, but its really holding me back creatively speaking. It is like trying to express something and literally not being able to find the right words. When you have something that you feel is very important to say, being able to express it clearly becomes non negotiable. Color I can play with, contrast I can play with, but good lighting and the right pose...those things, I can not draw to my satisfaction without either a live model or photoshoots with a live model because even though I veer off into psychedelia quite frequently, it all starts with realism... P.S: If you are local and would be open to modeling for me for free, for trade or for a modest fee, please let me know so I can keep you in mind. Its good to know who is open to this and who isnt, and dont worry if you arent a size 6 or muscled out, it would actually be really nice to paint people who arent the ideal. I am more interested in character, energy and your ability to hold a mood. My artwork does NOT cater to the Kardashian crowd. ;)
