I am going to post some current footage of some of my students who have done really well in their musical careers. As their teacher I feel a certain degree of pride - a word that I dont use much - that I might have played a small part in what they do so well. First up is John Teer and his band Chatham County Line... CCL is a visionary quartet from the Triangle of North Carolina consisting of Teer, David Wilson, Chandler Holt and Greg Readling has created their own brand of bluegrass music deeply rooted in Teers profound understanding and appreciation for the music of seminal stylists like Bill Monroe, Robert Jonson, Clarence White and Kenny Baker. For a rather long time Teer and I have been involved in an ongoing dialog about the music that really touches our hearts. As a matter of fact, this dialog has been going on since a very studiousLennon&Tony Trischka look-alike teenager by the name of John showed up for a fiddle lesson at our duplex on Jones Franklin Rd in Raleigh one day in 1994. As a student he was like a sponge. Id give him tenth generation cassette tapes of Scotty Stoneman w The Kentucky Colonels, Monroe live at Camp Springs or Berryville, Clarence playing with The Byrds etc and he would come back in a week and play back every brake note for note - but NOT only the notes - the soul was already there as well - an old, long-lived soul in a young teenager. Truly unusual... Always a joy to be around John Teer has grown into a mature artist whos humble attitude is only surpassed by his creative power and flawless hairdo. Here is a video featuring their original number Living in Raleigh Now. Many of you are of course aware of the fact that IBMA:s WOB event has been held for the last two years in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA... https://youtube/watch?v=pCfKz5AbD3I Ill be back with more student profiles soon... Play the melody, Teer!
