I am going to say my peace on a subject. __ rescuing is NOT easy - TopicsExpress

I am going to say my peace on a subject. __ rescuing is NOT easy work. I dont know how to say this but will just type and work it out. Recently I saw a post on someone needing a foster for a dog found. I offered up my home and my life to go get the dog.. had to travel over 30 minutes to pick this dog up and let it stay in my HOME. I posted found dog. Immediately I got massive amounts of people claiming the dog or wanting to come pick it up site unseen. I have 7 dogs.. was not looking to keep another one. Just wanting it to be reunited with its owners. I had that dog less than 24 hours. Again MASSIVE amounts of people messaging me.. most of those were claiming hey that is my dog. I demanded proof. Send me pictures and if you can provide vet records. Proof it is your dog. Because I know it had a home once.. I had someone look at my profile come ALL the way to my town and send me message after message demanding I show up with this dog now.. cops would be called etc. It was a mess.. all because I took a dog in to keep it out of the cold for a night. I told everyone offering to give this dog a home.. NO.. We are keeping till end of January because not everyone is on facebook and not everyone joins the same swaps. I need to give the owners time to find their dog. Still had people harassing me and demanding it as their dog yet they didnt want to send proof. Just said let me see and the dog will know me. I still held out. In the meantime I had one send me pictures and provide vet records. Once they came .. yes this was their dog. She was a therapy dog that alerted her family to when her owner was about to have seizures. If I had bended to the harassment etc that dog would have gone to someone who really didnt own it. The owners were very very thankful that I didnt just up and give her away essentially. Their dog was many miles from home when found. They have no clue as to how she got there. Dogs travel and dont just stay in one place. I know this from trying to catch a couple starving dogs these last few months. They are all over town. This being said.. if you have a lost dog provide pictures. Dont get mad. I guarantee you there are many messages on the facebook from others claiming your baby too. Let the person who has them work out the details. It isnt easy. We arent here to steal dogs. We are trying to be helpful. Ive for years have said dont be in a rush to just up and rehome a animal. Give the owner time. Also dont post a picture of the dog if you can. because some people will look at the pictures and point out details that they see --not KNOW. Same dog.. another person posted a picture. She had a red spot on her head had TWO people claiming what the red spot was. One was the owner.. the other someone trying to claim a dog they know wasnt theirs. If you believe someone has your dog. PM them and be grateful they ask for details. If not your dog could have been sent to another home without any thought or regard. If someone has your dog then be assured it is safe.. and work out the details. Otherwise your being harsh will make their hearts harden over the next rescue. we dont do this for fun. I am so upset that for the last two days I have tried to help dogs and am getting the negative side of that helping. It isnt fair. We are trying to be a supportive group and if I keep seeing and feeling negative from people it will make me not want to be a part of this. Being honest. I love animals and have helped them my whole life. I have seen the bad side to it also. Be thankful we ask for details.. BE THANKFUL. Because without us many a dog or cat would have suffered.
