I am going with 7.5/10 for Dog Day Afternoon, it is a 1975 American dramatic crime film directed by Sidney Lumet, featuring the brilliant alpacino Sidney Lumet directed this realistic socio-political movie as the replica of 12 angry men written by Frank Pierson it’s screen play was flawless and resembles with 12 angry men one of the Lumet’s classic. Sidney Lumet was one of the most underrated director of Hollywood, academy was blindfolded on his be-half, a director of low budget realistic sociopolitical motion picture , if the greatest show on earth could be awarded with the coveted prize then why not Sidney Lumet. It raises voice on various socio-political dogma and penetrates the cumulative anger of society over Vietnam War and federal operations in United States. The entire cast was fabulous in their portrayals which gave us a window to look back to seventy’s America and its derogatory society. This movie brought up issues like gay right, anti-war sentiment and hippie cultural pitfalls with surrealistic approach and caution.it won academy award for original screenplay, too bad 12 angry men had to compete with bridge on river kwai otherwise it was true worthy for the honor. Watch it and comprehend the then United States with present day India. It captures perfectly the zeitgeist of the early 1970s, a time when optimism was scraping rock bottom and that John Wojtowicz was as good a hero as we could come up with.
