I am happy that more Muslim families in need can receive monthly financial assistance from MUIS after a revision of its means testing criteria. This is possible because of the increase in zakat (tithes) collected, which reached $28m last year. I thank the community for their strong support. At a Ramadan bonus disbursement ceremony and iftar session on Monday, I met Mr Abdullah Arbaa who was there with his wife and 4 children. Mr Abdullah is a cleaner and his wife, a homemaker. Mr Abdullah said he was grateful to receive the $600 Ramadan bonus which will help ease his family’s finances. I hope that with the community’s continued support, we will be able to do more, to improve the lives of the poor and needy.
