I am hardly on on Sundays but thanks to Hog Wild today I am making a post, especially for all of my Wichita friends and Kansas friends who may enjoy good BBQ. For any of my friends who own other BBQ restaurants or has other BBQ suggestions feel free to offer your suggestions as Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q clearly doesnt care about my business in the future, nor clearly the perspective we are letting our friends know about. If I was a total jerk I would understand, but I try to be more than fair and I think the overwhelming majority of my friends know that. Anyway, my comments to BBQ and a result of my experience this morning: Over the years from my many reviews, of food, movies, books, music etc... you know of my love of Barbeque and that love which has been commented on and read from people all over the world. This morning we were treated so rudely that I am compelled to let others know of my recent experiences at Hog Wild Barbeque in Wichita, located on West Street. Over the last 10 or so years I have eaten at Hog Wild at least 1 time a month and when ordering we normally order a minimum of 2 meals and have ordered as many as 2 Family packs, and up to 8 meals I will let it be known, due to various issues, we wont be back and find it important to let my friends, readers and others know of those experiences. I give the following grades on food ordered this morning. Quality of Food - C (A shame because in the past I gave a score of an A) Reasons: The potato salad gets an F, it was virtually not edible, I dont know if they have changed their recipe or not, but my wife and I couldnt eat the product it was so bad. Beans - was good, likely worthy of a B, yet in the past a good B+ or A. Cole Slaw gets a C, again not as good as in the past, edible, but nothing special at all. Texas Toast, a bread product gets an A, it was very good and still among the best in town. The Meat and BBQ, Pulled Pork a B, but would have been an A if they had bothered to give you sauce, but more on that later. Customer Service - D+ - The person taking the order nice, didnt think anything about it, but apparently, you now have to ask for BBQ sauce at Hog Wild, something I have never had to do in 10 years. We got carry out and after driving some distance away to get the food, (when there is several very good BBQ places near us) we didnt check prior to leaving. The issue is first, at a BBQ place, and I have literally eaten BBQ all over North America and my reviews of it have been read across the globe, it is a shame when a formerly quality BBQ restaurant takes on the policy of McDonalds and tries to cut corners so much that they withhold the most basic of BBQ items, sauce. At least at McDonalds they will have a sign letting you know you need to ask for condiments. It is not unusual that you have to pay for extra BBQ sauce but to not ask you if you want it, then withhold it is unconscionable for a legitimate BBQ restaurant. Then when my wife calls back to complain, (those who know my wife knows she is pretty nice) to have them treat her like they did is the best reason I can think of to take my BBQ business away, (on a permanent basis) from Hog Wild. There are places in Wichita far better, far less expensive, who will appreciate the business. As to Hog Wild, see ya later, somewhere along the lines you have turned from a decent worthy BBQ place that appreciates your customers to one that frankly, just doesnt seem to give a rip.
