I am having a discussion about artists with a friend this morning and it got me to thinking about the whole rock star mentality as opposed to artists who are really humble and kind of just keep to themselves. I started to look at the differences in both work ethic and most importantly the finished product of the artwork in both circles and I have to admit, there is really no comparison. Those who yell the loudest about their greatness seem to be lacking in any originality and it is clear that in years to come, there will be little there to remember them by. Then I look at those who are humble, who are helpful and who are simply downright beautiful souls, and their art will indeed live forever. You know why? Because they see that the room for improvement is endless. And yet the irony is, that we all wish we could be as talented as they are! I have a list of those artists who I continue to be amazed and inspired by, not just by their talent, but by their giving personalities. Tim Bruckner, Arantza Sestayo, Gerald Brom, Jordu Schell, Mark Newman, Nick Runge, Arthur Adams, Nick Bradshaw, Dorian Cleavenger, Dan Dos Santos, Brian Stelfreeze, Tom Bancroft are just a few names of those artists who just keep me focused and in awe of. Because they understand it is all about the art. It is about the creative process, wanting to be better with each piece and most importantly, no matter how great they get, they remain helpful and humble. Honestly, there is no greater attribute that any artist can have. And for those who are up and coming, who want to BE great artists, please friend any of the above people and be truly inspired. I know I have left many artists out, but that is only because I am having a mental blank right now. There are many others who should be in this list, and I will continue to list them in my artists who inspire folder if you are ever interested to see who inspires me.
