I am heartened to note that State House has issued a statement regarding the trip abroad by our head of state for a medical check up. Our prayers have been with Mr. Sata from the moment we suspected - from his physical appearance alone - that his health was a cause for concern. This new openness has been long overdue and comes at a time when yet another gruelling public appearance was expected of our republican president. The nation can now collectively cast its thoughts towards commemorating our Jubilee without undue speculation as to the state of Mr. Satas health. We can all pray with a collective sense of goodwill unencumbered by the negative thoughts that arise when people are left to guess as to what is going on because of lack of information about such an important national issue as the health of our president. May God be with Mr. Sata and his family as they tend to him at this time. We wish him a safe return.
