I am honored that The Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS (GHAR) has invited me to teach a course on ethics to new agents this coming Wednesday. We will cover the 17 Articles of the NAR Code of Ethics using examples of real life situations encountered by REALTORS. NAR established the Code of Ethics in 1913 to create acceptable standards of practice for REALTORS. At the most basic level, the Code of Ethics espouses the Golden Rule, Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You. The class will focus on the responsibilities REALTORS have to Clients, the Public and Other REALTORS. Some of these topics include agency, confidentiality, accountability, disclosure and truth in advertising. I am looking forward to this unique opportunity to be back in the classroom. Preparing for this class has made me reflect carefully on the concept of ethics in every day real estate transactions.
