I am honored to be part of this amazing event put on by the super awesome Mike Levitt (LA Mike)! He has always been an amazing voice for the animals. They are so lucky to have him on their side, and so am I. Im super proud of you man! i have some INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rescue friends…as many of you may know, in addition to being LA MIKE the rescuer, I am also a television producer. As rescuers, we save one dog at a time but as a television producer, I knew there had to be a way to bring my two worlds together and do something on a national level that could be a game change for rescue animals everywhere. Two years ago, I came up with a concept for a primetime special with the premise that weve seen the entertainment industry come together for 9/11, Hope for Haiti, Stand Up for Cancer…Well, now its time for them to rally for mans best friend!!! Its called THE GREAT AMERICAN DOG-A-THON and its a two hour primetime special in which people can sign up to foster, adopt a dog we feature on the special, or donate money to help rescues save more dogs. Last year I tried to sell it. I came close but was not able to get past the finish line. So I approached actress and animal advocate Hilary Swank with my idea. She loved it and became my partners. Together, we re-pitched it to the various networks. I am THRILLED to let you know that we we made it happen!!!!!! THE GREAT AMERICAN DOG-A-THON will tape in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 22nd and will air primetime from 8-10pm on Thanksgiving Night on FOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In addition to Hilary co-hosting, many major celebrities are already confirmed to participate including: Jane Lynch, Scarlett Johannson, Miranda Lambert, Betty White, Kristen Bell, Paula Adbul, Josh Duhamel, Fergie, Paula Abdul, Kesha, Leann Rimes, & Carrie Ann Inaba with more to come. In addition to the 30-50 dogs we adopt on the special, we will also collect information on interested fosters and forward that information to rescues in their community. Viewers will also be able to go to our website, enter their zip code, and be exposed to hundreds of adoptable dogs in their area. (Note: we will collect applications and the backing rescue will adopt the dog with background checks, home checks, follow up visits,etc. Whats amazing beyond the dogs we adopt on the show, is the platform we have to create awareness on such subjects as: Spay & Neuter, the joy of adopting a senior or special needs dog, letting viewers know they can find pure breeds in the shelters, debunking the pit bill myths, urging people to network homeless dogs and become part of the movement, etc. I look forward to updating you all in weeks to come. If this special is successful, it will become an annual special such as The Jerry Lewis Telethon. I cant do this without all of you supporting the show. This means getting everyone you know to watch it on Thanksgiving Night and helping promote it on social media! This is the first time a television network has stepped up and dedicated two hours of prime time programming to celebrate rescue dogs and as well as spotlight the incredible work this community is doing each day to help the 8 million animals that enter our shelters each year. Lets hear it for FOX for believing in this idea. And Lets hear it for all of us who finally have a platform to share the joy that adopting a rescue animal brings to our lives….HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!
