Their unicorns would ensure the economy would remain perfect; Scotland is already one of the wealthiest countries in the world – richer per head than the UK as a whole, France and Japan. Analysis by the Financial Times confirms that an independent Scotland would start off in the world’s top 20 richest nations. We have a £13 billion food and drink industry; international exports from manufacturing alone of £15 billion. We have more top universities than any other country; and we are world-leaders in industries of the future like creative industries, life sciences and renewables. We have a quarter of Europe’s offshore wind potential and 60% of the EU’s oil reserves. We’ve also generated more tax, per head, than the UK for every one of the last 33 years. Spending on social protection benefits, including pensions, is more affordable in Scotland because they take up a smaller proportion of our total tax receipts. With independence we will always get the government that Scotland chooses and decisions about Scotland will be taken by the people who care most about Scotland – the people who live and work here.
