I am in need of someone/anyone who knows PC hardware. Here is my situation: I am constantly running out of RAM. I run XP (yes!) on a Corei7 920 and it is maxed out wtih 4Gb RAM (effectively 3.2Gb) - maxed out in terms of processing capacity for 32bit processing. If I upgrade to Windows 8, will I be able to add more RAM? Assuming I go from 32bit to 64bit processing which I understand I can do with this chip. Or am I talking out my @ss? I understand I will have to actually buy the additional RAM and install it. But from what I read, that is pointless as long as I run at 32bits. Ive held onto XP until the bitter end because Vista, Windows 7, etc. I let go XP very unwillingly. My alternative to the upgrades above is to just get a new system altogether. But this time I will want to build it myself and not get some Dell crap. In your opinion, is it worth refurbishing the old system? The hard drive is probably getting on as well though it still reports as healthy. Its about 3 years old. I dont do gaming. Besides the net I mostly use my machine for image processing, photoshop, etc. Using Chrome really kills my RAM. So does Photoshop.
