I am in support of the ACA based on my belief that its socially the right thing to do in an ethical sense. Not based on any forecast model... someone commented recently. Thats the problem. Its the old excuse that as long as it is well intentioned then any policy is acceptable and beyond criticism regardless of whether it actually works or solves the problem it seeks to solve. Any negative consequences of the policy to others, even a majority, can be rationalized because the policy helps people, even if its a tiny minority. Any abridgement of individual rights and constitutional principles and any disruption of economic or societal norms resulting from the policy that could prove to be harmful or even devastating to a few or many can be justified because the policy has good intentions. Thats a dangerous road and a slippery slope. Its also folly.
