I am just back from a run along the lovely Douglas promenade. Its the coldest day of the year but I am boiling. Fuming. Within the last week the Department of Infrastructure has advertised in the newspapers that it PROPOSES to introduce parking on Douglas promenade. The public has until 3 November to make representations or make objections in writing to the proposals. This morning there are already barriers in place, parking ticket machines in place and 10 miles per hour signs painted on the WALKWAY (past experience shows that there is no chance that such a limit will be observed). Its only 4 months ago that the cycle lane was removed and a 12 month trial period introduced where the very same department said that cyclists and pedestrians could share the same facility. gov.im/news/2014/jun/25/cyclists-and-pedestrians-can-share-with-care-on-douglas-promenade and to encourage a mix of recreational users in the area. It is 100 times more important that we save Douglas Promenade which is used intensively every day than Ramsey Pier. First we have the plan to move the horse trams to the promenade at a moments notice now we have a plan to move cars to the promenade when the notice is not even respected by the Government Department that issued it. Give your notice to save this important asset. Its pointless having a vision of all sorts of fancy buildings in Douglas if we dont look the after we have got. the Department of Infrastructure seems determined to destroy the ISLE OF MAN INFRASTRUCTURE.
