I am just heartbroken over the passing of Mrs. Altman. She was such a wonderful loving person and teacher. I feel so lucky that the kids and I got to know this special lady. As I have been thinking of her today, my most favorite memory of her is one that does not involve my children. Waverly had an awards assembly every nine weeks and would pick a star student from each grade. The teachers would write a few sentences about the student which would be read aloud to everyone. That nine weeks she picked a boy who was not the best student but had worked so hard to become better. She worked with him during her lunch to improve. She wrote an entire page of wonderful loving comments about this boy. As the principal read them, I was watching this boy and it was like he grew 2 inches listening to those words. He was just so proud of himself. I got tears in my eyes watching him. That was what she was about. Always caring about all the kids. Making them feel important. Heaven definitely gained an angel today.
