I am just over halfway through The Bully Pulpit - Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism by Doris Kearns Goodwin (one of my most favorite authors!) Fascinating political history. Just read the following TR quote, from the winter of 1905: It would result in a dreadful calamity, to see the nation divided into two parties, one containing the bulk of the property owners and conservative people, the other the bulk of the wageworkers and the less prosperous people generally; each party insisting upon demanding much that was wrong, and each party sullen and angered by real and fancied grievances. Oh, for a leader with the energy and convictions of TR again - and journalists the like of Ida Tarbell. Fascinating read - totally relevant to today. Dont let 750 pages (not including Notes) put you off! :)
