I am just reflecting on what happened yesterday with the teacher. - TopicsExpress

I am just reflecting on what happened yesterday with the teacher. Funding for all educational purposes is marginalized as reflected by yesterdays incident. Yet the educational funding shortfalls hurt the kids in a broad range of ways. Listen to this particular one: I want to share a fairly recent experience with a nearby district. I was researching the history of that district with Special Needs students. Advocacy groups are aware that this district is an especially bad actor. In the process of researching the situation, I came across a troubling piece of litigation. This District had won litigation configured to protect monies for the normal students by predesignating a set (and limited) amount for special needs students. The allocation for special needs students could not be supplemented from the funds for normal students or other miscellaneous budget items. It could not be adjusted to reflect an increased population of special needs students nor ones whose needs were cost intensive. The special needs students were to fit into this annually budgeted formula and still have their needs met at an equivalent level. I do not think it is particularly ironic that this District is highly affluent. Interesting that they could protect the interests of the normal children but had so little vested in advocating for the most vulnerable ones. Success is everything there and keeping the normal ones on the fast track was high priority. If that meant the special needs ones fell off the wagon . . . . oh well.
