I am kind of floored by this move. First that Arne Duncan is surprised that students with special needs to not do as well in English and Math. There is a reason that they are in SDC classes. Second that he thinks that the solution is to force more testing on students with special needs. My autistic son had to take the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) over and over. Even though it is not required for students with an IEP to receive a diploma or graduate. What purpose did that serve. How did it help his development. Instead of funding these programs properly you are going to make it worse. Schools will continue to force students out of services to show progress. It is already hard enough in this state to receive basic special education services for your child. I am so over Arne Duncan.
