I am learning about history this semester, which I am glad I only one more week left of btw. It has caused me to ask questions that have been asked before. My classmates ask, Why didnt the slaves just over power the plantation owners? And I am like, why, now, dont the 99% overpower the 1%. Just stop buying all their crap. Same bull, thousands of years later (Egyptian slaves and their kings for ex). Black people were brought here on ships, against their will, then they were disliked and not exactly welcome. Hispanics, although not against their will, were brought over to work as braceros. In a way the US conditioned them to come over and work all the jobs we wont take. So, in short, for all the people making a big fuss about illegal immigration, its quite simple: just cook your own food, mow your own lawn, take those minimum wage or below jobs that nobody seems to want and they will very likely go away. It has already happened. Farmers over the past few years too often have had a hard time finding men and women to do the labor in their fields. Machines are used more commonly, but human hands are still needed for a lot of things. So yeah, think about that.
