I am loathe to use social media for this type of posting but we are getting overrun so Ill be brief to try and answer the masses who are calling to express concern w/o compromising security so to speak. Yes, one of the Officers shot in the Bronx last night is a member of the 404th CA BN. Officer Andrew Dossi also answers to the name SSG Andrew Dossi. I know him personally. He is one of my Sergeants. Im not going to say he and I went to different colleges together but Ive jumped with him twice and Ive worked with him. Ive seen him in the bird, in the air and on the ground after with all actions being exemplary. He is a fellow Paratrooper and Airborne Brother. I also ran into him on the 161st 4 Train Subway platform. He was on duty in uniform and I was in a suit. He stood at Parade Rest while addressing me until I told him to knock it off. That is the type of NCO and Soldier he is. So, needless to say, Im not surprised that when he was getting off work last night when the call came in he and his partner took the call rather than declining it as he could have, according to a Police LT. in the hospital today. That is exactly the type of conduct we have come to expect from SSG Dossi, routinely. I spent most of the day in the hospital with him, a CPT who is a trauma nurse and was there on his own time because they are friends and a K-9 Cop who is a dear friend of his. All of them are in my unit. This is in addition to the myriad of family, friends, old Army Buddies and NYs Finest. Here is the latest. I dont know how he gets out of the door of the aircraft on jumps because his balls are that big. After coming out of the first of, no doubt, many surgeries his first question was Did they get him, yet? followed by wondering how his partner was making out. Not a word about woe is me. I was privileged to spend the day with him, reflect on his quiet bravery and even made him laugh when I told him he wasnt excused from Battle Assembly this weekend. All things considered he is doing amazingly well. That is not to belittle his injuries. They are serious and will require hard work and top notch medical care but he is a rock. He is a fighter and is already sucking it up and driving on. May St. Michael watch over him. Now this may be a little shy on details but this is as far as I go in this forum. The extent of the injuries and other details are his business. Keep the prayers for him and his family coming. But, yes hes ours, hes a gamer and, between the NYPD and Army, were on it. Nobody gets left behind. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke Thank God for men like SSG Dossi and his partner. Pray for them, St. Michael.
