I am looking to rehome my registered quarter horse mare, Calamity - TopicsExpress

I am looking to rehome my registered quarter horse mare, Calamity Jane, AKA Callie. Shes for sale due to no fault of her own, only mine - she is a fantastic horse. Does reining, trails, and any manner of cattle work. Shes 12 years old, 14.2hh, and not ready to retire. She was originally purchased from Orange Livestock market by a woman who was afraid of her but thought she was pretty, and I bought her to keep her from going back to the auction. I thought shed settle down and become a pet, and she still might, but she needs much more attention than I can give right now. I managed to injure myself rather severely in December, and havent been able to ride more than once a week since then, and shes boarded 40 minutes from where I live. This is a horse that needs work. Trails, ranch work (we suspect she is from a ranch out west - I just havent been able to get her registration papers. I have the name and number for the guy who has them, but he hasnt found them yet). She has taken me through water, over bridges, steps over fallen trees, and carefully picks her way around obstacles. We got sucked up to her stomach in mud and she was more concerned about keeping me in the saddle than she was about the mud. I would love to find a home where she would have a job - cattle, other horses, sheep, whatever you need herded, she would do it. Downsides: shes pigeon toed, but this does NOT affect anything about her movement. She will pretend that it bothers her when shes feeling lazy, but if you keep her going, shell walk right along, no problems for the rest of the day. She is also only friendly to a certain degree. She will let you hug her, love on her, and will come when whistled for, but when she finds out youre not actually doing anything other than petting her, she will walk off again. She has front shoes because otherwise shes sensitive to rocks. You can tell shes from a working line of QH and not western pleasure show just by looking at her - she doesnt have her nose in the dirt, and shes built level and with a brilliant mind that, again, NEEDS something to do. She will make a FANTASTIC horse for someone, but I am not the right person for her. She trailers, picks up all feet, and is UTD on coggins and shots. She had her teeth floated in April. You might be able to get her to run barrels, pole bend, or do showmanship, I just havent been able to. She originally sold for $2500, Im hoping for $1500, but am willing to negotiate to the right home. Located in Gloucester, VA. Any questions, just ask. She is branded on her left shoulder with a backwards K sharing a spine with a R.
