I am more inspired than ever to pursue my vision of a sustainable aquaponic farm that produces food year round for my home. The ability to sustain and lessen our dependance on foreign food sources has never been easier to create than now, thanks to modern technologies and innovations in organic farming. By next Summer I vow to set up my first sustainable aquaponic greenhouse. After searching for instructional videos and not having the ability to ask the questions I desired I recently found a local Aquaponic farm that creates produce for local grocery stores as well as hosts classes on aquaponic farming. Aquaponic Farming is a modern farming technique that uses fish tanks in symbiotic harmony with plants. The fish create a natural nutrient rich water that the plants use, and the plants clean the water for the fish. The fish can be harvested and eaten for protein, and the plants can be harvested and eaten for their extensive mineral and nutrient content, thus sustaining a healthy protein and nutrient rich organic diet. Grains are not needed, as there are plenty of carbohydrates found in vegetables. This diet is free and clear from processed foods and preservatives and outside food sources, and can provide a family with food for their entire life, created and farmed locally on site. I also plan on outfitting my aquaponic greenhouse with solar panels to power heaters and ventilation fans, as well as create geothermal temperature regulating airflow inspired by a design I saw last night. There is a ton of work ahead for me in this next year but I am more passionate and driven then ever before. I hope to share this knowledge and make it accessible for all of my fans and followers. These greenhouses can be built as small or as large as is needed to sustain, and I will be building one capable of sustaining enough food for me and my partner, as well as being able to feed and have harvest parties with my friends.
