I am not Scottish, I live in England, but for over a year I was trying through social media to promote the idea of Scottish independence as much as possible and to convert as many No people as possible to Yes. Many people asked, why do you care? Well, that is why. We live in a dark time. Instead of reaching out for beautiful ideas like progress, rationalism, humanism, ideas in the spirit of enlightenment and the French revolution, people reach out for the dark, the extreme. ISIS, UKIP, EDL, the Tea Party... its like the world is going backwards, a negative evolution. In a world full of ignorance and obsession with empty celebrities and shallow pop-culture, in a reality when people support any war and any crimes against humanity as a necessity just because the corporate media told them so, a phenomenon like the Yes voters is unique. Despite the state propaganda, the Yes voters managed to form an opinion based on personal research and by analyzing the situation, which is truly a remarkable phenomenon. At such a time, an independent Scotland is exactly what the world needs. An empire built on inequality, exploitation, on ignorance, is finally coming to an end. Instead, an enlightened progressive state called Scotland appears in its place. On the 18th of September every humanist, every rationalist, every socialist, every progressive person in this world, will be looking up to the Scottish people and the decision they make. The world needs an independent Scotland!
