I am not a punch line. I am not here for your analytic dissection. I am not a hooker on meth with a heart of gold. I am not a man in a dress. I am not here for your cure or your advice. I do not suffer from a disorder so I do not need to be cured by you. I need your friendship and your kindness and your ability to stand with me in this fight to be heard and seen and touched and humanized. I am your neighbor and your best friend and your brother and your doctor and your senator and your mother and your responsibility. I am just like You. So do myself and my fellow Transgender artistic tribe a favor and take your stereotypical Hollywood roles and keep them where they belong: Back in the 1970s. We are all made from the same star stuff. The Divine nature from which we come is what connects us. For in the taking care of each other, in the ability to be brave and stand up and live true, and see ourselves in the deepest part of the people we think couldnt be farther away from our own experience, we ultimately allow ourselves the greatest gift we will ever know: ...that we are, none of us, any of us, a punchline.
